Dutch poultry expertise in the spotlight in Almaty
This week, a Dutch business delegation is in Almaty, Kazakhstan, for AgroWorld Qazaqstan 2026. The visit is part of Poultry Forward Kazakhstan, a programme that connects Dutch knowledge and technology with Kazakhstan’s ambitions for a modern, efficient and sustainable poultry sector.
About Poultry Forward Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is investing in the development of its poultry sector, with a focus on higher productivity, food security and sustainable production. Poultry Forward Kazakhstan supports this through knowledge exchange, training and cooperation between Dutch and Kazakh companies and organisations. The programme is carried out by RSBD, Dutch Poultry Centre, Wageningen University and Aeres Training Centre, working with local liaison Ulan Tajibaev.
A week-long programme
The delegation arrived in Almaty on 26 October. The week started with a cluster meeting about the progress of the programme and developments in the Kazakh market. Over the next few days the programme includes a joint conference, network receptions, the official opening of AgroWorld Qazaqstan and the National Pavilion of the Netherlands, and B2B meetings between Dutch and Kazakh companies.
Conference on integrated poultry production management
On 27 October, Wageningen University and Dutch poultry technology partners held the joint conference “Integrated Poultry Production Management: Dutch Technologies for Broiler and Layer Production” at the Best Western Atakent hotel. Rick van Emous (Wageningen University) and Jan Wolleswinkel (Dutch Poultry Centre) moderated the day, with simultaneous translation between English and Russian.
The programme covered the full poultry production chain:
- feed manufacturing and precision nutrition
- broiler breeder management and egg handling
- ventilation, lighting and water management
- hatchery management
- data-driven production management
- poultry processing
- turning by-products into value
The day closed with a panel discussion on the future of poultry production in Kazakhstan. The panel looked at which investments pay off most, which management skills will matter more in the coming years, and how long-term cooperation between Kazakh and Dutch partners can be strengthened. A networking dinner followed, where participants continued the conversations from the conference.
We would like to thank the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Wageningen University and all Dutch technology partners for their contributions, and every participant for their interest and active involvement.
